"Four women dancers run, jump and fly breathlessly around the stage, struggling against the grinding, crushing, suffocating force of a great machine, in a bold new production for New Settings 2012, by Julie Nioche and Virginie Mira.
One is a dancer, choreographer and osteopath. The other, an architect and scenographer. Both explore movement in space. Since 2004, Julie Nioche and Virginie Mira have collaborated to ‘knit together’ moving images, focusing first on evanescent materials like air and water, and now, on the palpable force of a great machine.
Virginie Mira’set features an infernal, massive, towering device, with four giant blades or paddles. Drawing on her close study of physical effort and images of the human body, Julie Nioche’s choreography responds with dazzling energy.
The stage is conceived as a living arena, a metaphor for the action of the driving forces of society on the body. The work’s profoundly humanist message closely echoes the inspiration behind the Fondation d’Entreprise Hermès. At the very limits of their craft, the four dancers harness their physical prowess and resources to resist the terrifying seven-metre high propeller as it seeks to rob them of their identity, time and space. Suspended four metres above the ground, the machine draws them into its vortex before dropping to less than fifty centimetres above the stage, threatening them with imminent destruction.
Voleuse is a celebration of the seamless osmosis of choreography and staging, exploring a new, cross-disciplinary approach in the essential spirit of the New Settings programme. The work’s closing image of cathartic peace is a celebration of the space of the stage itself."

Dans Voleuse, les corps se confrontent à un espace mouvant qui contraint la danse.
Un espace dangereux, attractif, incisif, vif, contemplatif, restrictif, jouissif, emprisonnant, vertigineux, ludique, excitant.
Les quatre danseuses sont prises dans l'antre d'une grande hélice tournant à l'horizontal.
Les gestes émergent de l'adaptation de leur corps à cet environnement.
Cet objet brasse de l'air, du temps qui passe et semble être autonome. Les quatre femmes solidaires résistent dans un corps à corps solitaire avec la machine. Elles foncent dans le rythme de la Voleuse.
